Xinet Posts Comment on Turning Point for UK Users

May 15, 2008

Earlier today, Xinet posted a statement here on the XUG website for UK users concerned about the business status of integrator Turning Point Innovations (TPI). Word began to spread in the UK on Thursday that Turning Point was in administration, a business status used in many European countries that is similar to filing for bankruptcy protection.

Below is the message provided to us today by Xinet, directed at Xinet users in the UK:

Currently TPI is in administration, but they are still trading under
the control of the administrator. All the key engineering staff are
still working normally until the Administrator decides the future of
the company.

I'm sure you can understand that until the Administrator has made
some decisions it is hard for us to comment right now, but we are
working closely with the TPI management team to get this resolved ASAP.

TPI In administration

Has anyone had an indication as to how Xinet products will be supported with the downfall of TPI in the UK.
Will Xinet be contacting their license holders directly?

Xinet Admin--GUI or Command Line?

Hi all,
Do you folks use the command line or the Xinet Admin and FlashNet GUI apps for administration? Do you think one is better than the other? The doc seems to devote a lot of space to the command line. I have always used the GUIs but lately I've started to wonder if it would be possible for a unix newbie like myself to make the transition. Any advice? Thanks.

XUG Podcast on Xinet WebNative Portal Ready for Download

On March 27, 2008, XUG held an international Phone Chat on the topic of "Issues to Consider in a Xinet WebNative Portal Implementation." The audio from the chat is available for download by XUG members, sponsors, and Xinet and AXI employees.

The session was moderated by Eric Hegdahl and Greg Floro, of Graphic Systems Group (GSG) in New York City. GSG has been considering bringing Portal into their WebNative workflow.

Our special guest was Nick Gowler, of Pearson Education UK, whose company has already begun to integrate Portal into their operation. Pearson Education is one of the world's largest publishers of textbooks and other educational material.

XUG Phone Chat on Video Integration Available for Download

On April 9th XUG held an international Phone Chat on the topic of integrating video and other motion files in what traditionally have been print-centric environments. The audio from the chat is available for download by XUG members and Xinet and AXI employees effective now.

Included in the discussion was the use and functionality of the Video Support add-on for the Xinet WebNative Suite of software.

Our principal panelists were from N-GEN Studios, a front-end production division of Omnicom subsidiary agency TracyLocke. The panel members from N-GEN were XUG Board Member Sam Moore, Jordan Schibler, and Tom Kehn. Our guest moderator (and welcome provocateur!) was the indefatigable Ramesh Patel, from the UK-based Fresh Media Group, playing the XUG version of "London Calling."

Xinet Licensing - What's Your Experience Been?

Promoted from the User Forums

I am wondering what other Xinet users experiences have been like when it comes to adding or updating your Xinet Product licenses.

In the past when we had a single server running FullPress, updating a license was simple. But for the past few years, since we have added multiple servers running multiple products, it seems as though it takes Xinet about a week to get an updated license to us--a "correct" license, that is.

The scenario generally goes like this:

Search Venture metadata fields using Adobe Bridge CS3...

I was wondering if there is any information about using a third party
app, like Adobe Bridge CS3, to search for Venture generated metadata
contained by files on a Fullpress volume?

In my workflow, hires images need to be cleaned. I was thinking that if the cleaners were able to search the Fullpress volumes for the images that contain specific metadata created using Venture, it would help a lot instead of having to navigate through finder windows and folders.>>>

Picture Wrangler Releases

Thanks to Scott Eik of IO Integration for posting this announcement which we've promoted from the User Forums:

As of Dec. 21st Xinet has released versions of Picture Wrangler XT for
QuarkXPress 7.3 & Picture Wrangler for Adobe InDesign 3. You can
find the Fullpress client installer in the downloads area of Xinet's
site inside the Fullpress folder, "FullPress Client Installer 15.3.10"

FlashNet and Leopard

Promoted from User Forums

Has anyone tested using the current version of Flashnet to backup a
10.5.x Server? We are currently running Flashnet v5.8.11 on a 10.4.11
Xserve, and although SGL hasn't released an official version the
supports Leopard, I am wondering if any one is doing any testing out
there.
