WebNative Portal Slowness

"Read more" for Xinet reply

I just sat in on the phone conference and got some very useful information, and Joel called out for me, but for some reason I could not be heard. So I wanted to post here to get more information on Portal issues.>>>

We too are holding back launching Portal to our clients. Primarily because of the speed of browsing when our internal users use the Portal site. We need them working internally because they want to use an email function via 3rd Party software (Elegant from NAPC). To send to a Portal user, they need to send from a Portal site.

Browsing in Portal is so prohibitively slow, that we are now having our internal users get their files from WebNative, download them, then send them via traditional email, which defeats the purpose of Portal.

Do you have any additional information regarding speed performance in Portal, and is this a common problem? Also, have other people been reluctant to roll Portal out for this reason?

Thanks.
Carol

Hi Carol

I work in the Technical Sales Department at Xinet and was also in the conference call today. I'm really sad that we did not get to hear about your problem on the conference call but let's see if we can address it now.

My first obvious question is: what version of Portal are you currently running? The reason I ask is because the new version of Portal (2.05) communicates with WebNative using a dedicated CGI especially for Portal, in contrast to previous Portal versions which used the CGIs intended for WebNative output.

The result of this is a much faster experience in Portal. Because of this new CGI, it is mandatory to install a patch on the WebNative server in order to use WebNative Portal 2.05. This patch can be found in the Beta Software/Portal area, in a directory called "REQUIRED patch for WebNative server". (Your AXI should be able to help here.)

If you are currently on Portal version 2.05, then we obviously need to explore other avenues. Please feel free to contact either myself (gary.fisher [at] xinet.com), our support department (help [at] xinet.com) or your AXI directly if you prefer.

Many thanks,
Gary
