Xinet Licensing - What's Your Experience Been?
Promoted from the User Forums
I am wondering what other Xinet users experiences have been like when it comes to adding or updating your Xinet Product licenses.
In the past when we had a single server running FullPress, updating a license was simple. But for the past few years, since we have added multiple servers running multiple products, it seems as though it takes Xinet about a week to get an updated license to us--a "correct" license, that is.
The scenario generally goes like this:
1. We submit license request to VAR,
2. VAR submits to Xinet
3. Xinet sends license to VAR
4. VAR send license to us.
5. We review the license, it contains the wrong information
6. Re submit license request to VAR.
This generally goes back and forth for a few days...grrrr.
Is it just us?
I don't think it is just you. We have had a couple of variations on
that theme ourselves. It's very frustrating to think you have all your
ducks in a row for an upgrade and waste all kinds of time with
licensing snafus.
usually I see license requests turned around the same day. The Xinet licensing department is very responsive especially if I need a very quick turn around.
Is there an area of the licensing that keeps getting messed up (Product added to wrong machine, seat count wrong etc...?")

We have had issues in the past with products being added to the wrong servers, or more recently, trying to get additional sdss clients added to to our FlashNet license file. That generally takes two or three attempts as the request goes through our Integrator, Xinet and SGL.
We too have problems with the licenses issued by Xinet. I have to say our Integrator, Turning Point, are very responsive and the problem is obviously not with them.
We recently requested a demo license to include Video Support, and the first one had the incorrect hardware ID, the second one didn't include our sub-admin licensing, but it was third time lucky!
This is not an isolated incident though, and sadly seems to be the norm with new licenses.
Just making sure it wasn't just me ;-)

Greg,
As you can see, not just you. It turns out that the SGL folks were not habitually copy-pasting Xinet's requests, so 'ones' and 'ells' would be transposed, for example.
Rhea and I exchanged many emails over the issue, and things seem much smoother now. (we also know to double check things like host id, SN, products, etc... since things can slip)
cheers,
